Top 10 Products by Steve Jobs

These are 10 products created under Steve Jobs direction - some changed our lives, all of them defined his.

Apple I (1976) - Apple's first product was a computer designed by Steve Wozniak, while Steve Jobs orchestrated the funding and handled the marketing.

Apple II (1977) - One of the first successful personal computers, designed as a mass-market product rather than something for engineers or enthusiasts.

Lisa (1983) - Jobs' visit to Xerox Corp.'s research center in Palo Alto inspired him to start work on the first commercial computer with a graphical user interface, with icons, windows and a cursor controlled by a mouse. It was the foundation for today's computer interfaces, but the Lisa was too expensive to be a commercial success.

Macintosh (1984) - Macintosh had a graphical user interface and was also cheaper and faster and had the backing of a large advertising campaign behind it. People soon realized how useful the graphical interface was for design. That led "desktop publishing," accomplished with a Mac coupled to a laser printer, to soon become a sales driver.

NeXT Computer (1989) - After being forced out of Apple, Jobs started a company that built a powerful workstation computer. The company was never able to sell large numbers, but the computer was influential: The world's first Web browser was created on one. Its software also lives on as the basis for today's Macintosh and iPhone operating system.

iMac (1998) - When Jobs returned to Apple in 1996, the company was foundering, with an ever shrinking share of the PC market. The radical iMac was the first step in reversing the slide. It was strikingly designed as a bubble of blue plastic that enclosed both the monitor and the computer. Easy to set up, it captured the imagination just as people across the world were having their eyes opened to the benefits of the Internet and considering getting their first home computer.

iPod (2001) - It wasn't the first digital music player with a hard drive, but it was the first successful one. Apple's expansion into portable electronics has had vast ramifications. The iPod's success prepared the way for the iTunes music store and the iPhone.

iTunes Store (2003) - Before the iTunes store, buying digital music was a hassle, making piracy the more popular option. The store simplified the process and brought together tracks from all the major labels. The store became the largest music retailer in the U.S. in 2008

iPhone (2007) - The iPhone did for the phone experience what the Macintosh did for personal computing - it made the power of a smartphone easy to harness. Apple is now the world's most profitable maker of phones, and the influence of the iPhone is evident in all smartphones.

iPad (2010) - Dozens of companies, including Apple, had created tablet computers before the iPad, but none caught on. The iPad finally cracked the code, creating a whole new category of computer practically by itself.

He resigned as the CEO of the company in August this year, after which Cook took over as the CEO and the company named Jobs as the Chairman.
The news Apple fans and shareholders had been dreading came the day after Apple unveiled its latest version of the iPhone, just one in a procession of devices that shaped technology and society while Jobs was running the company.

The following speech was delivered by Steve Jobs at Stanford University’s 114th Commencement on June 12, 2005.

Following is Apple CEO Tim Cooks statement after the death of Steve Jobs
I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.
Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

We are planning a celebration of Steve's extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email rememberingsteve@apple.com.
No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve's death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.

Google Encrypted Search

Google SSL Search allows end-to-end encrypted search solution between your computer and Google. This protect your search terms and your search results pages from being intercepted by a third party. This provides you with a more secure and private search experience.
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a protocol that helps provide secure internet communications for services like web browsing, e-mail, instant messaging, and other data transfers. When you search over SSL, your search queries and search traffic are encrypted so they can't be read by any intermediary party such as employers and ISP.
It works in the same way online banking or other login pages work. Using Secure Sockets Layer connections, the connection between you and Google is encrypted, so that third parties, beyond you and Google, cannot look at your search data.
An encrypted connection is created between your browser and Google when you search on https://www.google.com. This beta service only works with traditional search results. Encrypted connection may lead to slightly slower results. Encrypted search does not mean Google no longer stores your search data - it only means third parties cannot listen in to the connection between you and Google. Searching over SSL doesn't reduce the data sent to Google - it only hides that data from third parties who seek it.

Hidden wallpapers and themes in Windows 7

When you first install Windows 7, it asks for your language, time and currency. Based on your responses, it installs a set of wallpapers and themes. If you choose English (US) for your time and currency format, for example, the available desktop backgrounds and themes will include a United States section with scenery from locations such as Maine, the Southwest and so on.

There are hidden background scenery and themes from other English-speaking countries like Australia, Canada, Great Britain and South Africa.

Normally, you can't access those backgrounds or themes, but there is a simple way you can install and use them:

Ø  In the search box in the Start menu, type C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT and press enter.

Ø  Windows Explorer will launch and show you a list of subfolders:
MCT-AU, MCT-CA, MCT-GB, MCT-US, and MCT-ZA. Each subfolder has wallpapers for a specific country: AU for Australia, CA for Canada, GB for Great Britain, US for the United States, and ZA for South Africa.

For any of the countries whose wallpaper and themes you want to use, go into its Theme folder, for example, C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT\MCT-ZA\Theme. Double-click the theme.

Ø  That will install a shortcut to the theme and wallpapers in the Personalization section of Control Panel.
You can now use them as you would any other theme or background, by right-clicking the desktop, choosing Personalize, and choosing a background or theme. They will be listed in their own section.
